Hexane extractable material (Oil & Grease) must be dried before the solvent is evaporated to get the best recoveries. Sodium sulfate is often used, but is inconvenient and may cause loss of analyte or addition of fines to the extract. There is always the possibility of water breakthrough.
The WaterTrap membrane uses a physical separation to remove water from the organic extract. It is clean, convenient to use and economical.
The device is placed in-line with the elution vessel and the solvent plus extracted material passes through the membrane while the water is retained in the Trap. The Trap is discarded and a new Trap is used for each sample.
