SPE-DEX® 4790 Automated Extraction System

The SPE-DEX 4790® Automated Extraction System is a fully automated sample preparation system designed to rapidly process samples for trace level analysis of organic chemical contaminants from aqueous samples using United States EPA methods for Solid Phase Extraction (SPE).

T
he SPE-DEX® 4790 Extraction System uses Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) technology to replace the old, labor-intensive liquid-liquid extraction (LLE) technique. In addition to delivering accurate, more consistent results, SPE technology slashes both sample processing times and solvent use.

Solvent consumption is cut by up to 90% compared to traditional liquid-liquid extraction methods. Sample run times are less than 5 minutes.

Unattended operation increases the overall productivity of your lab as personnel are freed up for other projects. Plus variability between chemists' techniques is eliminated. The SPE-DEX® 4790 Extractor processes samples directly from the original sample bottle. It automatically delivers all solvents, regulates sample processing and disk drying times, rinses the sample bottle and collects the extract.

The SPE-DEX® 4790 Extraction System features:

Bench-top operation frees up valuable hood space
Modular design allows for addition of up to seven extraction stations
Interchangeable 47 mm and 90 mm SPE disk holders
Handles sample volumes from 20 ml to 4 L

Fast Flow Sediment Disk Holder

Customer demand has prompted the development of this unique accessory. It has been designed to facilitate fast, efficient and cost-effective processing of environmental water samples containing medium to high particulate matter using Horizon's SPE-DEX 4790® instruments.

The large 100mm pre-filter assembly mounted above a conventional 47mm Atlantic brand SPE disk holder provides a large surface area over which sediment in water samples can be filtered effectively prior to contact with the sorbent material. This design supports a high flow rate (>150mL/min) for samples containing particulate laden matter. Two new Atlantic™ pre-filters are available, a 5 micron coarse pre-filter and a 1 micron fine pre-filter.

Benefits:

Affordability- Supports 47mm low-cost SPE disks.
Speed- Processes 1L of a dirty sample in less than 30 minutes.
Accommodates your most challenging water samples.
Analytes that cling to the sediment are included in the extraction process.

Method Compatibility

While this new product is fully compatible with all organic methods currently developed and used with our 4790 instruments it will be most valuable to customers who seek solutions for effective processing of "dirty" waste water samples. Therefore, it is anticipated that all customers involved in processing the following EPA Methods will benefit from this product. 608, 625,1600 series and 8000 series as well as other emerging methods involving trace analysis of large volume water samples for ground, river and waste water sources.
