New Method Development for Semi-Volatile Organics
(EPA Method 8270) Using an SPE Disk

Salem, NH May 2011- Horizon Technology is pleased to add a new industry leading application note to our extensive application library. The focus is on semi-volatile organics and addressing the major challenges labs face when handling samples of this variety.

This application note outlines a new technique and product that optimizes EPA Method 8270. This method is historically difficult to complete efficiently. One of the more challenging obstacles is the inability to run the whole sample using SPE because the sample is typically high in particulates and sediment. Filtering out the particulates and sediment can lead to low recoveries and is very time consuming. Horizon has set out to make performing this method considerably more simple by creating the Atlantic™ 8270 One Pass Disk. This disk in conjunction with the Fast Flow Sediment Disk Holder allows for the whole sample to be processed quickly while delivering exceptional recoveries for even the most difficult compounds.

The Atlantic 8270 One Pass Disk contains sorbent which is able to extract a large list of semi-volatile compounds (approximately 117) without a second pass of the sample at an elevated pH eliminating the formation of precipitates. These solutions streamline the extraction process and allow for all samples to be processed at the same high flow rate. By doing this labs are able to accommodate more samples per day and can expect consistent results from multiple technicians running the samples.
