Technology Selected to Join the Inc. 5,000 Fastest-Growing
Private Companies in the US
Horizon
Technology has met another successful milestone, we have been
inducted into this year's 2008 Inc. 5,000 list of the fastest-growing
private companies in America.
Now in
its second year, the Inc. 5,000 is the most comprehensive
portrait of fast-growing private companies assembled anywhere.
An
extension of Inc. Magazine's annual Inc. 500 list, it recognizes
the most dynamic, growing entrepreneurial companies that are
changing the business landscape.
Companies
are ranked according to the percentage growth of their revenue
from 2003 through 2006. Companies must be based in the United
States, independent and privately held, with a full four-year
sales history. Inc Magazine released the entire list of all
the companies for 2008 Inc 5000 on August 20, 2008.
Robert
S. Johnson, Founder & CEO, of Horizon Technology commented,
"We are thrilled to be recognized for our well-planned, strategic

A Fast and Easy Separatory Funnel O&G
Transfer Technique!
When using the Horizon Technology Automated
Extractors for Oil & Grease extractions, the final extract
is collected in a VOA vial, or in a 125 ml flask. The food
color technique is used to visualize the separation between
the water-soluble solvent (methanol or acetone) and hexane.
A disposable transfer pipette is used to transfer the hexane
layer into a pre-weighed pan for evaporation. This transferring
part of the method can be completely eliminated using a 125
ml separatory funnel designed to fit onto the Horizon Technology
Extractors.
The 125ml separatory funnel is used just like any other collection
vessel. Once the extraction has been completed and the extract
collected, a drop of food color is added to the 125 ml separatory
funnel. Swirling the separatory funnel will disperse the food
color into the bottom water-soluble solvent layer. Instead
of transferring the hexane layer with a pipette, the bottom
colored layer is drained through the stopcock, leaving behind
at least one drop of the colored liquid so as to not lose
any hexane containing the oil & grease material. The hexane
is then poured out through the top opening into a pre-weighed
pan, being careful not to pour the drop of colored liquid
into the pan. The 125 ml separatory funnel is then rinsed
three or four times with hexane, pouring the solvent into
the pan after each rinse. This technique is fast and easy!
