Environmental
Testing Lab Develops Method for Determination of PCBs in
Water Using Horizon Technology Solution
Polychlorinated
Biphenyls (PCBs) are a
worldwide contamination problem. Because PCBs are long lived
in the environment and bioaccumulate throughout the food chain,
a great deal of research has been done, and regulations implemented.
Environmental lab, Northeast
Analytical met the challenge by optimizing an SPE method
based on the Horizon Technology SPE-DEX 4790 instrumentation.
The result
was an SPE method that eliminated 90 percent of solvents when
compared with the conventional methods, exhibiting a significant
reduction in purchase and disposal costs of chlorinated solvents
such as methylene chloride. It also greatly increased the
safety in the lab by reducing potential exposure of workers
to the solvents.

DID
YOU KNOW?
You
Should Rebuild Your Water Inlet Valves Every Six Months
Over
time, water inlet valves on both the Horizon Technology SPE-DEX
1000 and 3000 Extractors become dirty. Some parts such as
the solvent rods and O-ring can become brittle, causing the
valve to become difficult to open - putting added stress on
your extractor.
For these reasons, it is important to rebuild rebuild your
valves at least once every six months. Rebuilding the valves
is a straight forward process that can be done in about 15
minutes, with few tools and parts. ... download
