EPA Method
8081B
Automated Solid Phase Extraction of Organochlorine
Pesticides from Water Using Certified for Automation
Atlantic SPE Disks
Solid Phase Extraction (SPE) is an increasingly popular method
to analyze trace contaminants in water samples. Benefits of
the technique include less solvent usage and exposure, less
time, and less effort than liquid-liquid extraction.

In a recent Horizon Technology study, the effectiveness of
the Atlantic SPE Disk in extracting
organochlorine pesticides (EPA Method 8081B) from water samples
was investigated, and an optimized method of extraction developed.
Pesticide pollution is a subject of global concern and although
many countries have now banned the use of organochlorine pesticides,
they linger in the environment and can contaminate water sources.
Organochlorine pesticides can be toxic to animals and humans,
so methods which accurately and easily quantify them are essential.
The results of the study demonstrated that the Atlantic
Disk is able to quantify a wide array of organochlorine
compounds in a single extraction; each at a higher recovery
rate than the standard set by the EPA. The success in analyzing
a range of 20 organochlorine pesticides illustrates the breadth
of pesticides the Atlantic Disk is able to accurately quantify.

Service
Agreements
Did you know that Horizon Technology offers Service Agreements?
A Horizon Technology Service Agreement is the best way to
protect your investment.
A great example of this is customers who take advantage of
our Depot Service Agreements. With the Depot Service Agreement,
loaner instruments are shipped when needed. Once the loaner
is received, the instrument in need of repair or yearly preventative
maintenance is shipped to headquarters. The customer's instrument
is inspected, repaired and tested by our expert staff, and
quickly shipped back. This keeps downtime to an absolute minimum.
If you would like to learn more about our service agreements,
please call 603-327-7857 or email support-service@horizontechinc.com
with the subject line as "Service Agreements".
